Does Nintendo even still care about us?

I think VGCats pretty well sums up everyone’s feelings after the big N’s paltry showings at E3. Or mine: “WiiMusic? This was your big announcement? And Animal Crossing? What the hell, man?!”
But is that really how it is? You have to admit that not much of anything new or interesting was shown by anyone there, not just Nintendo. So is this truly a symptom of Nintendo’s growing disdain for core gamers? Or just a symptom of E3′s own decline and irrelevance as an industry metric?
Miyamoto seems to indicate that they were targeting the mainstream at E3, with the presence of Newsweek and other outlets that aren’t so gamer-specific, without confirming or denying those suspicions that they were no longer targeting the core audience at all. But, to complete the quote that Joystiq missed, “So while attending an E3 event like this, they might be given the impression that Nintendo is no longer focusing on the games that appeal to the core gamer, in fact we’re still working on many of those titles, but it’s just not the type of event where we’ll be showcasing that anymore.”
Still, those suspicions abound, and the theory definitely is plausible that since the Wii has become the darling of the mainstream, Nintendo just doesn’t need us anymore.
Only time, and the Tokyo Game Show, will tell. But we just may have to change this site’s name to PS3-tards.
Cause, I’ll be honest with you, in the last few months I’ve been spending more gaming time on my PS3/PSP than on the Wii/DS. And the games I’m most excited about in the near future, Valkyria Chronicles, Disgaea 3 and Mirror’s Edge, are all going to the big black box…
