2007/02/12 |

| Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles |
Konami |
2007/04/02 |

2007/04/09 |

Win |
| Castlevania |
Konami |
2007/04/30 |
500 |
Konami’s original whip-weilding, vampire-slaying adventure. A bit slow-moving and dodgy in places…imho this series didn’t really get good until around Symphony of the Night |
Meh |

2007/05/07 |

Win |
| Pac-Man |
Namco |
2007/05/14 |
500 |
Another Namco classic that’s been milked to death already. Yeah, it was one of the important pieces of early gaming history, but come on, there’s already 5000 iterations of it. |
Meh |
| Milon’s Secret Castle |
Hudson Soft |
2007/06/04 |

A lengthy, cute, complex and somewhat odd adventure that still holds up well after all this time. |
Win |
| Zelda II: The Adventure of Link |
Nintendo |
2007/06/04 |
500 |
The highly anticipated sequel to Zelda, many people complained that the battle scenes, towns and dungeons had become side-scrolling instead of sticking to the standard overhead view. Still a worthy game though. |
Win |
| Lode Runner |
Br0derbund |
2007/06/11 |

Grab the gold, climb the ladders, dodge the…what is that anyway. At least it isn’t Deadly Towers. |

| NES Open Tournament Golf |
Nintendo |
2007/06/18 |
500 |
Okay golf sim, featuring Mario, Luigi and pals. It’s good for the NES, but has been surpassed by better games like Kirby’s Dream Course or Albatross18, and in general sports games don’t really retain a lot of nostalgia value. |
Meh |
| Super Mario Bros. 2 |
Nintendo |
2007/07/02 |
500 |
By now, everyone knows this one wasn’t originally a Mario game. But who cares? It’s lots of fun, and introduces many concepts that became staples of Mario’s world. |
Win |
| Mach Rider |
Nintendo |
2007/07/09 |
500 |
Witness the horror that is, the NES trying to do 3D. At least this is an interesting concept, combining shooting and blowing things up with your typical motorcycle racer. And it has editable tracks. |
Meh |
| Yoshi |
Nintendo |
2007/07/09 |
500 |
Don’t get excited because of the title. This is basically a remake of Hatris, an rightfully obscure puzzle game where you have to reverse columns of stuff to match falling objects. And that’s the only control you have over anything. |
Fail |
| Balloon Fight |
Nintendo |
2007/07/16 |
500 |
Nintendo’s version of Joust, with kids flying around with balloons instead of ostrich-mounted knights. Simple and good for multiplayer, not so much for single. |
Meh |
| Star Soldier |
Hudson |
2007/07/30 |
500 |
The original Star Soldier isn’t as graphically impressive as its TG16 sequels, but it’s still a solid vertically-scrolling shooter that was groundbreaking for its time. |
Win |
| Adventures of Lolo |
Hal Laboratories |
2007/08/06 |
500 |
The kind of arcade-style puzzle/action game that was popular in the 80′s but quietly faded with time. No scrolling – each screen is a puzzle in which you must retreive a key and avoid the enemies. Graphically unimpressive, but the frantic puzzle-solving is still fun. |

Meh |
| Bonk’s Adventure |
Hudson / Red |
2006/11/21 |
600 |
Bonk was the closest thing NEC ever had to a ‘mascot’ character for the TG16. As such, there’s a great platformer to be found here, with minigames, varied locales and nice bits of technique. |
Win |
| Super Star Soldier |
Hudson |
2006/11/27 |
600 |
A good vertical-scrolling shooter with a nice variety of weapons and arguably the best graphics of any TG16 game. |

Lackluster racing game whos only real draw was the ability to maintain and upgrade your car. |

2006/12/11 |

Pinball fans will dig the creepy visuals and specials. It’s fun for a while, but there’s still only one table not counting the bonus screens, and it does get old after a while. |
Meh |
| Military Madness |
Hudson |
2006/11/18 |

Futuristic strategy game whos basic architecture would inspire later titles like Advance Wars. Not much happening in the visual or sound departments though. |

Bland dungeon crawl with randomly generated dungeons and support for up to 5 players. |

Asian stereotypes aside, this is a cute, fun and challenging puzzle/action game. |
Win |
| Double Dungeons |
Hudson |
2007/03/12 |
600 |
A psuedo-3D dungeon crawl for one or two players. Interesting for a while in 1P mode, but as the name suggests, best played with two. |
Meh |
| Splatterhouse |
Namco |
2007/03/19 |
600 |
A bloody arcade beat-em-up featuring an almost copyright-infringing masked antihero. First game to rate a parental advisory, years before Mortal Kombat. |
Win |
| Dragon’s Curse |
Hudson / West One Bit |
2007/04/02 |
600 |
A.K.A. Wonder Boy 3, this is a pretty good sidescrolling action-RPG, with a character who has been cursed and turned into a dragon. |
Win |
| Bravoman |
Namco |
2007/04/09 |
600 |
Silly sidescrolling superhero action. Not particularly good, but charming nonetheless. The engrish alone is worth the price. |
Meh |
| Bonk’s Revenge |
Red |
2007/04/16 |
600 |
Not much changed or improved from Bonk’s Adventure, just more of the same headbutting, meat-chomping dinosaur-bashing action. |
Win |
| Battle Lode Runner |
Hudson |
2007/04/23 |
600 |
The same tedious action as Lode Runner on the NES, but allowing up to 5 players to share the pain. Misery loves company, after all. |
Fail |
| Shockman |
Hudson |
2007/04/30 |
600 |
The second of a series of Japanese anime-parody games, this game will provide a good dose of lighthearted Megaman-style action. |
Win |
| Ordyne |
Namco |
2007/05/07 |
600 |
Namco’s little-known sidescrolling comedy shooter. Nicely drawn sprites and lots of action. |
Win |
| Ninja Spirit |
Irem |
2007/05/14 |
600 |
A port of Irem’s hugely underappreciated ninja action sidescroller. Pick from four different ninja weapons each with its own strategy and technique to use, attack with shadow copies of yourself as you delve deeper into a spooky underworld of undead samurai and flesh-eating demigods. |
Win |
| Blazing Lazers |
Compile |
2007/05/21 |
600 |
A personal favorite from the TG’s large library of vertical-scrolling shooters, with four basic weapons that can each upgrade into several different forms before reaching full power. Catchy tunes too. |
Win |
| J.J. & Jeff |
Hudson |
2007/05/28 |
600 |
With all the poop, pee and fart jokes taken out for the American audience, what you have left is just a mediocre arcade-style action game. Still fun but…you can tell a lot is missing. |
Meh |
| Dead Moon |
Natsume |
2007/06/04 |
600 |
Side-scrolling shooter, using Blazing Lazers’ idea of having several upgrade levels for its basic weapons array. There’s some nice, large and detailed enemies to fight against as well. Overall, not the best, but still worthwhile. |
Win |
| Bloody Wolf |
G-Mode |
2007/06/18 |
600 |
A decent enough top-view shooter, boasting better graphics, cut-scenes and story than the arcade version. Not much variety in the weapons or enemies though. |
Meh |
| World Sports Competition |
Hudson |
2007/06/18 |
600 |
A summer olympics styled game, like Konami’s old Track and Field, but better. It’s got 12 events, so there’s variety, but still…it’s an old sports game. |
Meh |
| China Warrior |
Hudson |
2007/06/25 |
600 |
This is essentially a tech demo for the TG16, showing how large of sprites it can handle. But they’re poorly animated, and there’s only four human characters in the whole game – it’s just endless punching and kicking as the screens go by. Boooooring. |
Fail |
| Dragon Spirit |
Namco |
2007/07/02 |
600 |
The TG16′s library did enjoy some near-perfect arcade converstions. This one’s a vertical-scrolling shooter with a twist – instead of a lone plane in space, you’re a knight who’s been cursed and changed into a dragon. Get out there and burninate the countryside! Burninate the peasants! Burninate all the peoples in their thatched-roof cottages! o/~ |
Win |
| Air Zonk |
Hudson |
2007/07/09 |
600 |
Bonk didn’t turn out the be the attention-grabbing mascot everyone hoped for, but he was enough of one to warrant this weird Parodius-like spinoff game. It’s not a great technical shooter, but it’s wacky, lighthearted fun. |
Win |
| Silent Debuggers |
G-Mode |
2007/07/16 |

Run through identical looking ’3D’ corridors and fight the same alien blobby tentacle thing over and over. If you like this, you may enjoy factory work. |

| Devil’s Crush |
Irem |
2007/07/23 |
600 |
Like all great sequels, this improves on everythign that was great and fun about the original. Still, it is ‘just’ a pinball game, so there’s no great variety or exploration to be had. |
Win |

2007/07/30 |

Kind of a strange cross between Arkanoid (Breakout) and a falling-blocks puzzle game. Interesting but not really much depth to it. |
Meh |

Namco |
2007/08/06 |

Meh |
| Sonic the Hedgehog |
Sega |

People rave about this game. I really don’t know why. The graphics are Master System quality at best, the jokes are stale, and the randomly generated levels just mean that every level is exactly the same with no guarantee of finding any item you might want or need. |

U.S. Gold / Synergy |
2007/01/29 |

Sega |
2007/03/05 |

Sega |
2007/04/09 |
800 |
Sega’s first attempt at making themselves a mascot character, who never really managed to star in any good or memorable games beyond the first Master System outing. This one gets points for trying, but is quite far from giving Mario any competition. |
Meh |
| Virtua Fighter 2 |
Sega-AM2 |

Johnson Voorsanger Productions |
2007/06/04 |

Meh |
| Golden Axe II |
Sega |
2007/06/11 |

2006/11/19 |

Capcom |
2006/12/25 |

At the time, this was the best home port of Capcom’s groundbreaking arcade fighter you could get. But Capcom’s killed the ‘classic’ value of this title by releasing at least one other slightly improved version of the same game every year ever since. With these newer versions still fresh in the memory, the original doesn’t carry the same nostialgia – it just looks old and outdated. |

Rather than the faithful arcade ports that showed up on the other 16-bitters, Capcom made an entirely new adventure for Arthur and his fragile armor, with new weapons, new areas, new everything. It’ still just as punishingly hard as the others though. |

The last English version of Koei’s long-running series of historical strategy games. Decent AI system for making enemies and allies as you try to unite all of China under your flag. It’s good, but it still feels like a history lesson. |

Konami’s signature side-scrolling shooter improved with a fully customizeable weapons series. The slowdown in this game is actually due to its being too faithful to the arcade version. |

Konami’s lengthy comedy ninja adventure featuring a host of archetypes from traditional Japanese mythology, along with some Konami self-referential parody. Too bad so much was lost in translation – even the names of Goemon and Ebisumaru. “Kid Ying and Dr. Yang?” Come on… |

An arcade-to-home port of the beat-em-up everyone at the time was trying to beat. Complete with illogical and insulting changes made for the ‘kiddie’ non-Japanese audience. |

Still hate Donkey Kong and his freakin’ country, still hate CGI prerenders, and this game does little to change my mind. |

Another keeper – mixing action battles and Populous style overview modes – you play as a god who awakens from a long slumber and finds he must win back his power and the faith of his people…by force if necessary! |

WTF?! This is a slightly tweaked version of the same Street Fighter II that was released a month ago. The extra title-length is supposed to denote a list of tweaks and improvements, but it’s still THE SAME DAMN GAME. Shame on you, Capcom. |

Four-player racing-battle action featuring Mario and his crew. With Mario Kart Double Dash still somewhat fresh in the memory this one doesn’t quite have the nostalgia value of others. |

Another epic adventure in the Zelda series, with a lenghty main mission and plenty of side-quests. Definitely points well-spent…unless you already have the bonus disc that came with Windwaker. |

It’s about time we got a new N64 game. Too bad it’s this one. Even if it’s 3D, it’s essentially the same as the SuperNES game, and doesn’t include the DD Expansion Pack which would have allowed level editing and other fun stuff. |

There was a breif period in the mid-90′s when every console had to have at least one jet-ski game. This one was easily the best of the lot, and gave customers a taste of just what the newly-introduced Nintendo64 could do. Still, same problem applies with sports games – not much nostalgia value attached, and it just seems outdated. |
