Taimanin Asagi – The Well-Dressed Kunoichi of Today
July 16th, 2009 @ 6:59 pm by KunoichiZero
After several months’ delay I’ve finally gotten Asagi Igawa from Taimanin Asagi. I’d never heard of that particular show before, but the clothing and pose immediately appealed to me and my love of futuristic ninja-girls and the color purple. The delays though… agh. Originally she was supposed to be released March 31, then April, then May… Finally, she arrives in mid-July, just when I’d almost forgotten about her. (Just as well, though. With all that’s gone on lately, I wouldn’t have been able to afford her if she’d come any earlier)
Asagi’s really impressive especially from a company I’d never heard of before, though. But, I’m now convinced that the scaling means nothing on these figures, or if anything it’s just a ballpark, because she’s overall smaller than Tamaki who is listed at the same scale. She doesn’t have much in the way of actual accessories, just the sword which can be held either way in her hand but looks best in ‘backward’ and two bases – the really neat ‘broken ground’ one, and a smaller plain black oval – I guess if the other is too big. The oval one was so unremarkable that I didn’t even other to photograph it. Another oddity that stood out was the way she attached to her base. Usually the base will have a set of pegs on it which will correspond to holes in the figure’s feet. Asagi was the opposite – the pegs are on her feet, and the holes are in the bases. Which doesn’t seem too horrible until you realize this means she cannot stand at all without a base. Now, myself, I always use the character’s base-plates anyway, but if for some reason you don’t like to…that’s something to keep in mind with Asagi.
Anyway, here’s the pictures:
- I decided to start this time with a shot of her inside her box.
- Starting with the ‘full frontal’. Nice thing about a pose like this is that she looks great from all sorts of different angles.
- Here’s a closer bust shot. Gotta love the almost-nipple-slip there. It must be pretty cold wherever she’s been fighting…
- A shot from the right side, with a better view of her sword. The well-dressed ninja of today just has to have a color-coordinated sword.
- From behind you can see the cool open-calf design of her suit, and bright shiny purple butt.
- A closer shot so you can see the fishnet material… this is all separate fabric, not just painted on. Nice touch.
- A closer shot of her back – with a better view of the really nice scuplting details of her skin there.
- Here’s a better shot of the purply sword.
- Here’s a shot from the left
- Another close-up on the legs so you can see the armor-bits, purply spandex(?) and fishnet material all working together. Also her shoes look really cool.
- A closer-in shot from the left side. Which exposes the one point I didn’t like about this figure… the nipples just seem a little too much. You could put someone’s eye out with those things!
- Another front-angle shot. Again, the pose makes her look really nice from all sorts of different angles.
- I…think I’ve seen this shot before somewhere…
- Her hair really obscures her eyes unless you look from a kind of underneath angle. But that’s true to the original design so I can’t complain.
- I think I may have duplicated a few angle shots…
- Here’s a slightly different busy shot with a better view of at least one eye. Really nice smile there, too.
- Here’s a body-shot from a little lower angle, with a better view of her face.
- And an even lower angle. Which really makes her chest look HUGE. But also offers a nice bellybutton view.
- A repeat of the right side.
- I got in a bit closer to try to get a better profile shot.
- And even closer. The light color seems an odd choice for her lipstick…
- And one more closeup on her back… The scuplting really stood out to me with the way her shoulderblades stick out so realistically and all…
